Arab News said hygiene inspectors have arrested five expatriate workers during a raid on an unlicensed sweetmeat factory in Hejra district of Madinah.
The inspectors discovered that the facility was infested with insects. The civic body chief, Osamah Al-Homaidi, said the raid was conducted following a tip-off from a citizen.
The inspectors found that the workers were not adhering to even basic regulations pertaining to hygiene. The team seized flour and dough that was unfit for human consumption as well a pick-up vehicle that was being used to supply the products. Insects were also found inside the refrigerators and in the flour used for making sweets.
