Ramadan or Ramazan is the holy month of the Islamic calendar. It is an important belief of Islamic teaching. In the blessed month of Ramadan, it is a duty of all the Muslim to observe fast from dawn to the sunset. In fast, Muslims are not permitted to eat, drink or to talk or to think about bad doings.

Allah says in Quran about fasting that, “O those who believe, the fasts have been enjoined upon you as were enjoined upon those before you so that you be Allah-fearing.” (Quran 2:183)

The word ‘Ramadan’ is an Arabic word and in Urdu translation it means ‘extreme heat’. The Holy Quran was also revealed on the Prophet Muhammad in the Holy month of Ramazan. The basic teaching of this holy month is to fast, to seek forgiveness over evils, recite Holy Quran, and give alms.

There are many articles that explain the significance of Ramazan. There are also some websites that give the opportunity of reading and learning Quran online to gain knowledge about the teaching of Islam.

It is necessary for the Muslims to make ‘niyyah’ before observing fast. As ‘niyyah’ means ‘to make intention’, so it is important to make intention from heart for fasting.

In a narration by Muslim, the Messenger of Allah (S.A.W) said, “the reward of every (good) deed of a person is multiplied from ten to seven hundred times.”

The essential purpose of fasting is to seek Allah’s mercy. It helps the individual to clean heart and soul from evils and give lesson of donations, absolution, sympathy and tolerance.
Islam is a flexible religion where it make obligatory for the Muslim to observe fast, it also grant the ability of freedom for those who are sick, old, in journey and not able to fast. Fasting is an approach to acquire Allah’s forgiveness and sympathy.
Reciting Quran in the month of Ramadan has great importance. Reciting Quran in this month will bring him/her close to Allah. During fasting, one can consider the poverty and starvation of poor people. 

Charity is also a main aspect of this Holy month. Charity is a means to help out poor people for the sake of Allah’s will and a means to ask for Allah’s kindness. When someone spends money in the path of Allah to assist others then Allah definitely gives him/her a reward against his/her good act.  
One more essential feature of Ramadan is the night of ‘Laila – tul- Qadar’, (a night which is far better than thousand nights). According to Quran and Sunnah, it was the night in which Quran completed. On this night, Muslims around the world perform prayers, recite Holy Quran and do Zikr to gain Allah’s blessingsScience Articles, and His mercy.
