Religious and Historic Sites to Visit Around Madinah During Hajj (Part 2)

2. Jabal Uhud

The historic site that you will come across will be the Mount or Jabal Uhad where Muslims had a great battle with Meccans on 3 Shawal 3 AH (19 March 625). Unfortunately, Muslims lost that battle as they breached Prophet Muhammad’s (SAW) order. Before the battle of Uhad Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) ordered 50 archers to stand on this mountainside and strictly directed them not to leave their place, no matter whatever the situation maybe.

Holy Prophet (PBUH) specifically placed these archers to obstruct enemy in case they attack from behind. However, when these archers saw Meccans running from the battle field they left their place and started collecting their spoils. This gave Meccans a chance to attack Muslims from behind and turn their defeat into victory. The mistake caused severe causalities and Muslims had to bear severe loss. This defeat at Mount Uhad gave Muslims a great lesson that they should never disobey Allah.

Today thousands of Muslim pilgrims visit Jabal Uhad and revive this memory. The site also has an enclosure which contains some of the graves of martyrs of battle Uhad. These graves are of Hamza (R.A), Mus’ab bin Umair (R.A) and Abdullah bin Jasht (R.A). Rest of the martyrs of the battle are buried behind this enclosure.

3. Jannatul Baqi

The famous cemetery Jannatul Baqi (Garden of Heaven) can also be found in Madinah. It is located right behind Masjid Al-Nabawi. Many close family members of our beloved Holy Prophet (PBUH) are buried here along with ten thousands of Sahabas and other prominent and pious people. Some of the blessed close family members of Prophet (SAW) that are buried in Jannatul Baqi are:

All the wives of Muhammad (SAW), including Hazrat Aisah (R.A), Hazrat Hafsa (R.A) and Hazrat Sawadah (R.A), are buried here. Except for Hazrat Khadija (R.A) and Hazrat Maymuna bint al-Harith (R.A), as their graves are in Makkah.

The daughters of the Holy Prophet (SAW) Hazrat Fatima (R.A), Hazrat Ruqayyah (R.A), Hazrat Zainab (R.A) and Hazrat Umme Kulthum (R.A) are also buried in this cemetery. Prophet Muahammd’s (SAW) son Hazrat Ebrahim (R.A), grandson Hazrat Hassan (R.A), uncle Abbas (R.A) and wet-nurse Halimah Saadia are also resting at this site.

We at British Hajj Travel Ltd pray that Allah Subhanu Wa Ta’ala should give every Muslim an opportunity to visit this Makkah and Madinah at least once in their life. So they can perform the holy rituals and visit these religious and historic sites.
