Studies new design for Madinah Metro system

Construction Week Online said the pair have been appointed by the Madinah Metro Development Authority to design a system that will have three lines (green, red and blue) and will stretch over 95km. Some 25km of this will be underground and 48km will run on overhead lines.
The consortium will work up feasibility studies and preliminary designs for the netro, including the preparation of tender documents for design and build contractors. The work is expected to take 12 months, driven by a project team in Madinah.

The Metro is due to come into service in 2020 and will be developed in two phases.

Egis said this win has added to its Middle East rail project portfolio, which already includes a partnership with Systra and Parsons to manage part of the Riyadh metro works and project management roles on Doha Metro's gold line and major stations packages.
