8 Types of People who can accept Zakat

Zakat is an Arabic word means “purification”. Zakat is the third pillar of Islam and compulsory on every financially stable Muslim that is wealthy enough to afford to it. In religion, Islam charity holds so much importance that it is an obligation on Muslims in the form of Zakat. All eligible individuals are required to pay an annual percentage of 2.5% of the wealth and property they own as Zakat. Allah Almighty says in the Noble Quran: “Take from their wealth so that you might purify and sanctify them” (Quran 9:103).

The basic purpose of Zakat is to do Charity and help the poor grow and establish balance in the society. It helps poor to get basic needs which they could not fulfill due to financial problems. According to religion Islam, Zakat purifies your wealth and Allah gives you the rewards in the hereafter. When it comes to paying Zakat, there are different misconceptions that are prevalent among Muslims. Zakat cannot be given to just anybody, Islam has defined the terms and conditions of giving Zakat.

There are specific people to whom Zakat can be given. Allah Almighty mentioned them in the Holy Quran: “The alms are only for the Fuqara (the poor), and Al-Masakin (the needy) and those employed to collect (the funds); and to attract the hearts of those who have been inclined (towards Islam); and to free captives; and for those in debt; and for Allah’s cause, and for the wayfarer (a traveler who is cut off from everything); a duty imposed by Allah. And Allah is All-Knower, All-Wise.” (Quran, 9:60)

From the above verse of Holy Quran, we have mentioned below the people who can accept Zakat and to whom Muslims are required to pay Zakat:

  1. Al-Fuqara (The Poor): These are the people who don’t have means to live their life properly and live below the line of poverty. They deserve your Zakat in order to meet the daily necessities of their lives.
  2. Al-Masakin (The Needy): These people are also poor; however, because of their pride and bashfulness they don’t expose their poverty. Your Zakat can help them in improving their living condition.
  3. The Zakat Collectors: These people are given the authority by the ruler to collect the Zakat money, preserve it, and distribute it among the needy and poor. It includes trustworthy institutions and NGOs who are working to help underprivileged Muslim communities.
  4. The Newly Converted Muslims: Those who are newly converted to Islam are eligible to accept Zakat as with their conversion to Islam they need assistance and help for a new start in life.
  5. Freeing Captives or Slaves: The money of Zakat can also be spent on freeing the slaves or captives and improve their living standard.
  6. The Debtors: Zakat can be given to pay off debts of someone who cannot repay on his own. But one must make sure that the money they borrowed utilized for the Halal purpose.
  7. In the Path of Allah: Zakat can be given to those who are striving in the path of Allah. These are the people who are fighting for Allah’s cause far away from their homes. Your Zakat can help them have a better living.
  8. The Travelers: Zakat can be given to the people who are left alone in some foreign country and have no money in pocket to eat or survive. You can also give Zakat to the refugees as they leave their countries because of violence and oppression in search of a safe and better place.
The main objective of paying Zakat is to help the society by giving something from your wealth. In return, the Muslims get tremendous rewards not only in this world but also in the hereafter. Islam guides us to make this world a better place by helping others in need and that’s why it puts emphasis on charity. May Almighty Allah guide us to help the needy and poor people for the sake His pleasure. Ameen!

The Social System of Islam

Islam is the religion that promotes peace, love, and respect among Muslims and also with the people of other religions. The society in which Muslims live is known as an Islamic society. Islamic society is the one whose members have “Iman” (faith) in Islam, apply its laws in their life and performing religious duties and abstaining from doing what is unlawful according to Islam. The foundations of the social system of Islam depends on the belief that we are all equal and constitute one single society based on Islamic teachings.

Allah Almighty created a human couple to herald the beginning of the life of mankind on earth, and everybody living in the world today originates from this couple. Islam makes clear to all men that they have come from the same parents and are therefore brothers and equal as human beings. Islam says that if there is any real difference between man and man it cannot be one of race, color, country or language, but of ideas, beliefs and principles.

Social System of Islam

Anyone who believes in Allah Almighty and accepts the guidance of the Prophets as the law of his life can join the community or society of Islam, whether he is a resident of America or Africa, whether he belongs to any race, whether he is black or fair-skinned, whether he speaks any language. All those who join the Islamic community will have the same rights and social status. They will not be subjected to any racial, national or class distinctions. No one will be regarded as high or low.

The religion Islam made the social preference in man based on his worship to Allah and follow His Good Pleasure and Generous Recompense, through the channel of providing other fellow humans with service and help and not the fulfillment of his individual needs and interests. Living the faith is worship one can do service for Allah Almighty through service to humankind. Islam requires all its followers to be faithful and helpful and to share each other’s sorrows and happiness.

The social system of Islam enjoins the people to establish a strong relationship in which one can depend upon the other for help. A true Islamic society is where people can keep loyalty and faith among themselves. In an Islamic society, one has to respect the rights of others and conduct good duties towards each other. Mutual respect, kindness, and Justice towards each other create a close relationship and good morals in Islamic society. The foremost and fundamental institution of human society is the family unit.

The people of Islamic society should co-operate in acts of goodness and righteousness but not in acts of sin and injustice. Keeping good morals is another significant principle of the social system in Islam. Honesty, faithfulness, respecting neighbors, love, mercy, sacrifice, sympathy, keeping ties with near kin, and being kind and humble to others, are some other factors which consolidate a society and make happy its members. Being Muslim it is our duty and responsibility to form an Islamic society and keep it safe from corrupt elements by means of enjoining good and forbidding evil.

Importance of Zakat | The Compulsory Charity in Islam

Zakat is an Arabic word which means “purification”. Allah Almighty mentioned in the Quran: “Take from their wealth so that you might purify and sanctify them” (Quran 9:103). Zakat is the third pillar of Islam and compulsory on every financially stable Muslim that is wealthy enough to afford to it. Zakat is basically the compulsory giving of a pre-set proportion of one’s wealth to charity. All eligible individuals are required to pay an annual percentage of 2.5% of the wealth and property they own as Zakat. Its significance could be realized from the fact that Allah made it a pillar and by making it a pillar, Allah makes almost everyone experience it either as a giver or as a receiver.

Zakat has so much significance that Allah (SWT) combined it with salah on many occasions in the Holy Quran. Zakat is considered as compulsory charity and an obligation for those who have received their wealth from Almighty Allah to respond to those who are less fortunate in society. The basic purpose of making Zakat a compulsory charity is to purify a Muslim’s heart from all forms of greed and selfishness. The compulsory charity Zakat must be paid on different categories of property in which we have gold, silver, money, livestock, agricultural productions, and other business commodities. Zakat is payable each year after one year’s retention.

Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said: “The believer’s shade on the Day of Resurrection will be his charity” (Tirmidhi). From this hadith, we can conclude that Allah Almighty will shade and shelter those who give charity and care for the needy people. The Muslim’s sacrifice in this life will be their protection on the Day of Judgment which will benefit them forever. Just like prayer (salah), which is both an individual and communal responsibility, zakat also expresses a Muslim’s worship of and thanksgiving to Almighty Allah by supporting those who are in need.

Zakat reminds us that everything we have belongs to Allah (SWT). People are given their wealth as a trust from Allah Almighty, and zakat is intended to free Muslims from the love of money. Islam teaches that people should acquire wealth with the intention of spending it on their own needs and the needs of others. Allah Almighty mentioned in the Quran: “Zakat expenditures are only for the poor and for the needy and for those employed to collect (zakat) and for bringing hearts together [for Islam] and for freeing captives [or slaves] and for those in debt and for the cause of Allah and for the (stranded) traveler – an obligation (imposed) by Allah . And Allah is Knowing and Wise.” (Quran, 9:60)

Other than zakat which obviously is the compulsory charity, the Quran and Hadith also stress on giving Sadaqah, or voluntary charity, which is proposed for the needy people of the society. In the Quran Allah almighty emphasizes feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, helping those who are in need. The more one helps, the more Allah Almighty helps the person, and the more one gives, the more Allah (SWT) gives the person in return. One feels he is taking care of others and Allah is taking care of him/her.

In short, zakat develops the sense of purification from greed, develops a circulation of money for the economy. It also encourages people to develop a better society that lives in peace and harmony. May Almighty Allah give us the strength to fulfill this obligation and following the right path so that we will be considered in true followers of Islam! Ameen.

Rights and Status of Teachers in Islam

Teaching is one of the most respectful and valuable professions in the world. In religion Islam, this profession has more importance as our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW) introduced himself as a teacher. Allah Almighty says in Holy Quran: “Like (a favor which you have already received) in that We have sent among you a Messenger of your own, rehearsing to you Our verses, and purifying you, and instructing you in scripture and wisdom, and in new knowledge”(Quran, 2: 151). According to this verse of Holy Quran Holy Prophet (SAW) were sent to teach about the Holy Book Quran, the wisdom and unknown things to the people of this world.

As we all know that the person who teaches is a teacher, a man of obedience and respect. Teachers are some of the most influential people in society and have great importance in modern society. Teachers bear the responsibility of molding students’ personalities and educating them. Teachers are considered the most honored person in every religion. Due to the important role of teachers, Islam has granted high status and rights to teachers. Islam has paid great attention to teachers for their being the first brick in the structure of social development and perfection and the cause of guiding and developing behaviors and mentalities of individuals and communities. We can understand the highest rank of teachers from the Quote of Hazrat Ali (RA) in which He (RA) stated that: “If a person teaches me one single word, he has made me his servant for a lifetime. “

The teacher is considered the profound father in religion Islam. All Prophets were the teacher that sent before Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and obviously, Holy Prophet (PBUH) was also the great teacher for all mankind. Prophet Muhammad (SAW) teaches us how to worship Allah, how to implement teachings of the Quran in our daily lives and many other things. Islam lays great emphasis on knowledge. At numerous times and instances, Allah Almighty ordered the Muslims to acquire knowledge and learn. Islam lays so much stress on seeking knowledge and also on giving the respect to the ones who imparted knowledge. That’s why teachers have the highest status in Islam. In Holy Quran Almighty Allah says: “Allah elevates to high positions those from amongst you who are faithful and those who have acquired knowledge”. (Quran, 58:11)

Rights of Teachers

A teacher teaches the person so he has some rights some of them are mentioned below:

    • Lead his pupil means it’s the duty of the teacher to make his student smarter and have a good Akhlaq.
    • Get reward and appreciation. The teacher is the spiritual father of the student as he is the one who provides spiritual nourishment and improves the behavior of learners. That’s why we should appreciate teachers for their great work.
    • Teachers should have freedom of expression, obstacles and intervention should be cleared.
    • Teachers should get respect from other people. We need to respect the teacher who is willing to give us the knowledge.
    • Teachers should get good treatment to make his job easier.
    • Teachers should have freedom in giving judgment.
    • Teachers should acquire and utilize learning facilities and infrastructure.
    • Teachers should get physical and spiritual needs.

In short, we should know respect and become closer to the teacher who is willing to give us education and knowledge. Always respect your teacher.

Importance of Muslim Brotherhood in Quran and Sunnah

Islam is the religion of love, peace, and affection. Islam teaches the lesson of brotherhood between Muslims which we can say Muslim Brotherhood. This entire world is a brotherhood of Allah’s people whom His created. Muslim Brotherhood has great importance in Quran and Sunnah as our beloved Prophet (SAW) preached and practiced the lesson of the Muslim Brotherhood. Islam establishes brotherhood on basis of faith. The Prophet (SAW) said about brotherhood, “If a person loves his brother, he should inform him of this fact.” (Abu Dawud and Tirmidhi)

Muslim Brotherhood is the basis for a good Muslim society and making friends among Muslims opens the way toward better understanding and building a better Muslim Community. Muslim Brotherhood is not based on economic interests, race, or color. It is based on something infinitely superior that is Rejection of falsehood and acceptance of the Truth as revealed by the One True Lord Almighty Allah.

Brotherhood is not only based on faith, but it is also a part of that faith. The Prophet (SAW) said: “You cannot enter paradise unless you become a total believer and you won’t become a total believer unless you love each other.” Faith and community are inseparable in the faith community produced by Islam. Even an occasional reader of the Quran would note that it always addresses the Believers, not the Believer. All acts of worship that are declared pillars of Islam have a collective form shows the importance of the Muslim Brotherhood that one should get the benefit while doing with other Muslim brothers.

Those people who join in the worship of Allah produce a Muslim Brotherhood that demonstrates the best moral values of the faith. The believers are brothers in Religion just as Allah has described them in the Quran: “The believers are nothing else than brothers. So make reconciliation between your brothers, and fear Allah, that you may receive mercy” (Al-Hujurat, 10). The reason for their being described in this way is that they all share the same beliefs, work towards the same goals, and share the same code of behavior.

We will discuss in this article the importance of Muslim Brotherhood in light of Quran and Sunnah from which we can show how Muslims depends on each other and what Allah say in Quran about Muslim brotherhood and how Prophet (SAW) proved it practically.

    Muslim Brotherhood in Quran

Islam also teaches about brotherhood regarding the original parentage that is concerning to earthly origin all are descendants of the same pair of human being those are Adam and Eve. Allah Almighty says in the Quran: “O, mankind! Surely we have created you of a male and female and make you tribes and families that you know each other, surely the noblest among you unto Allah is one who fears him Behold! Allah is Knower Aware” [Quran, Al-Hujurat (49.13)]

Islam teaches that all mankind is but one family, as such all man and women are brothers and sisters. This verse also clarifies that the criteria for judgment in the eyes of Allah do not depend on caste, color, profession, gender or wealth, but on Taqwa, piety, and righteousness. Anyone who is righteous and pious is honored in the eyes of Allah.

Allah said in another verse of Holy Quran: “Hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided. Remember the favor of Allah upon you, when you were enemies and he brought your hearts together and you became brothers by his favor.” (Quran, 3:103). This verse clearly states that we should stay united as Allah commanded in Quran because He made us brothers by creating love in our hearts.

The level of brotherhood involves purifying the heart of all enmity, hatred, and grudge for those who have faith, including for the righteous predecessors of Islam, those who believed in the previous prophets, and the general masses of believers throughout all of history. Allah says in the Quran: “They say: Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in faith and put not in our hearts any resentment toward those who have faith. Our Lord, you are kind and merciful.” (Quran, 59:10)

In another Verse of Holy Quran, Allah Almighty says: “And among His signs is the creation of heavens and earth, and the variations in your languages, and your colors, verily in that are the signs for those who know” (Quran, 30:22). No one is superior from another on the basis of language and color in the sight of Allah all men and women are equal and we also should consider all of Muslims as our brothers and sisters.

Muslim Brotherhood in the light of Sunnah

There are many hadiths relating to the fact that Muslim society is like a building, which bricks support each other. We can say that the Muslim Brotherhood is very necessary for a strong Muslim community if we united we can face and stand our enemies those who are against our religion Islam. We can save our Muslim brothers from enemies by helping them only if we establish untidiness and brotherhood. Our beloved Prophet (SAW) practically proved that brotherhood is very important for us (Muslim). The Ahadith confirm and extend the Quranic teachings on Islamic brotherhood.

Prophet (SAW) said: “The Muslims are like a single man. If the eye is afflicted, then the whole body is afflicted. If the head is afflicted, then the whole body is afflicted.”(Sahih Muslim) This means the believers should love for each other what they love for themselves. They avoid harming one another; they should generous with one another, and should behave in the best manner with each other.

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: “He who relieves the hardship of a believer in this world, Allah will relieve his hardship on the Day of Judgment. He who makes easy what is difficult; Allah will make it easy for him in the world and the Hereafter. He who conceals the faults of a Muslim, Allah will conceal his faults in the world and the Hereafter, for Allah helps the servant as long as he helps his brother.” (Sahih Muslim) From this hadith we can conclude that by helping Muslim brother Allah will help the one who is helping in this world and the Hereafter. We should try to do behave in a way that mentioned above so that we can take blessings from Almighty Allah in this world and the Hereafter.

Aisha reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: “Verily, the believers with the most complete faith are those with the most excellent character and who are most kind to their families.” (Sunan Al Tirmidhi) from this hadith, we can conclude that If our families are Muslims, then they must also be afforded the rights of religious brotherhood.

In short, every person we meet will fall into one or more categories of brotherhood in Islam. As a Muslim, it is our duty to treat them well according to the rights for which they are entitled, whether they are family members or fellow human beings. We should promote brotherhood so that we can portray the true and best picture of the Islamic religion to the world so that non-Muslims would adopt this faith much more readily because they would see the fruits of this faith in its enthusiast. The feeling of brotherhood is mandatory for unity. May Allah help us to establish the true spirit of brotherhood by forgetting our so-called differences. And it is only possible if we act upon the teachings of the Holy Quran and Holy Prophet (SAW) especially in this regard.

    Sharia: Understanding Islamic Law

Sharia is an Islamic law. It is the religious legal system that conducts social, political and moral duties of believers or faithful Muslims. It is also known as “Lord’s law”. Sharia is derived from the Quran, the sacred book of Islam, which Muslims consider the actual words of Allah Almighty the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) as reported in the Hadith. Sharia is not optional; it is prescribed for believers as mentioned in Holy Quran: “And We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], the Book in truth, confirming that which preceded it of the Scripture and as a criterion over it. So judge between them by what Allah has revealed and do not follow their inclinations away from what has come to you of the truth. To each of you, We prescribed a law and a method. Had Allah willed, He would have made you one nation [united in religion], but [He intended] to test you in what He has given you; so the race to [all that is] good. To Allah is your return all together and He will [then] inform you concerning that over which you used to differ” (Quran, 5:48)

During the lifetime of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), He (PBUH) helped to clarify the law by interpreting provisions in the Quran and also acting as a judge in legal cases. Hence, Islamic law, the Sharia, became an important part of the Muslim’s religion, Islam. All of us being Muslims should follow the Islamic law, the sharia. In Holy Quran Allah (SWT) described in these words: “It is not for a believing man or a believing woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decided a matter, that they should [thereafter] have any choice about their affair. And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly strayed into clear error” (Quran, 33:36)

Islamic Law r Sharia combines stability, flexibility, and firmness. The eventual objective of every Islamic legal prohibition is to secure the welfare of humanity in this world and the hereafter by establishing a righteous society. Allah Almighty says in the Holy Quran: “We have sent our Messengers with clear signs and have sent down with them the book and the criterion so that man can establish justice. And we sent down iron of great strength and many benefits for man…” (Quran 57:25)

In another verse of Holy Quran Allah says about doing righteous deeds in these words: “God commands justice, righteousness, and spending on one’s relatives, and prohibits licentiousness, wrongdoing, and injustice…” (Quran 16:90). From the above verses of Holy Quran, we came to know about the Islamic legal prohibitions. These prohibitions are aimed at achieving human benefit; they can all be referred back to universal principles which are necessary for human ease. These universal principles include preservation of life, religion, lineage, property and other reasons.

Islam is a complete code of life, sent by Allah Almighty in the form of revelation by through Prophet Muhammad (SAW). Islam covers three essential needs of human life: physical, intellectual and spiritual. These three aspects of the faith are individually known as Islam (the divine law), Iman (belief), and Ihsan (Ethics and moral character). The first aspect, Islam, deals primarily with the physical aspects of the faith, such as its obligations, prohibitions and recommended actions. This is the part of the faith governed by Sharia the Islamic law. When the Prophet (SAW) taught Islam to his followers, He (PBUH) taught them all these three aspects at once, in a natural and holistic approach.

Mercy is the primary goal of Sharia the Islamic law. When society is informed by spiritual values, the purpose of Sharia, to bring out mercy to mankind, will be a natural demonstration of those values. Sharia makes life much easier for those who strive to live the correct life to please Allah Almighty. Sharia or Islamic law is founded on the principle that individuals rely on other individuals. An individual cannot carry out every aspect of Sharia by himself but needs other individuals that act as well, and from whose combined actions the society benefits as a whole. It is impossible for a person to reach perfection, but Islamic Sharia shows that one can reach perfection by their interactions with each other under the Sharia.

The overall objectives of Sharia are sometimes summarized under the following broad categories which are mentioned below:

    • For the establishment of Justice
    • Preventing oppression
    • Upholding morality both in public and private
    • Preventing hardships not only on an individual basis but also on a society level
    • Educating an individual

In an Islamic state, Sharia or Islamic law should implement and follow for the sake of Allah Almighty. These Islamic laws are for our benefits we should follow them and implement them in our lives for living a prosperous life in this world and hereafter.

Anger is the Disease of Soul - Powerful Tips to Avoid Anger

Anger is the temptation of Shaytaan and also a root of all evils; it can weaken the person’s faith. Anger is a natural feeling experienced by every person caused due to displeasure and annoyance. Despite the fact it is natural, anger can have serious consequences for us as well as the people around us. According to a narration by Abu Hurairah (RA) a man said to the Prophet (PBUH), “Advise me.” He replied, “Do not become angry”. The man repeated his request several times, and each time the Prophet (PBUH) told him, “Do not become angry” (Al-Bukhari).

Anger is a natural emotion that a person may express it in a manner that could result in violence and destructive acts. In the Holy Quran Allah Almighty says: “…Those who spend (freely) whether in prosperity or in adversity; who restrain their anger and pardon men; and Allah loves those who do good” (Quran, 3: 134). Allah loves those who control their anger and behave in well manners with other people.

We all should try to avoid anger as it is the disease of soul and our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW) also disliked this act. We are living in the world which is full of pressures makes us suffer from anger every time and can easily enrage negative emotions around us. We need to find at least solutions to reduce our negative emotion because they can easily provoke anger.

Powerful Tips to Avoid Anger in Islam

Today in this article we are going to discuss some powerful tips recommended by the Quran and Sunnah, to control and avoid anger.

    • Anger is not the matter of power as stated in hadith: “The strong man is not the one who can wrestle, but it is the one who can control himself when he is angry.”(Bukhari)
    • While someone is in the state of anger he/she should seek refuge from Allah Almighty. There is hadith of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) in which He (SAW) described that: If someone said “I seek refuge with Allah from the Shaytaan,” his/her anger would go away’. (Bukhari)
    • One should be calm and silent when get angry it is the best solution to avoid anger. It is extremely important to stay calm and be quiet because someone can lose control and can say those things which he/she regret later. Think about what you are about to do or say in anger. The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: “If any of you becomes angry, let him keep silent”.
    • It is better to forgive others who hurt, offend, or harm us, rather than be in anger. Forgiving is miraculous. Those who are willing to forgive others will get the reward from Allah. It is mentioned in Holy Quran: “But [remember that an attempt at] requiting evil may, too, become an evil: hence, whoever pardons [his foe] and makes peace, his reward rests with God – for, verily, He does not love evildoers” (Quran 42:40).
    • Make wudu and change your position while you get angry. As stated in Hadith in these words: “If one of you got angry while standing then sits down, or if sitting down then lay down. If anger does not go away then do Wudu”. (Abu Dawood)
    • Before getting angry one should remember the effects of anger. As we all know that anger is like the poison it can destroy everything a man has built in minutes like marriages, brotherhood, and friendship. One should be aware of these effects and be very careful with one’s choices when in a state of anger.
    • One should try and avoid the angered person from thoughts that continue to anger them.

In short, Anger can destroy one’s relationships, health, and sustenance. These destructions caused because uncontrolled anger is from the Shaytaan and he uses it to wreck lives. Therefore we should be aware of the tricks of the devil, and control our anger. Allah Almighty promised for a greater reward for in this world and in the hereafter for controlling anger. May Allah Almighty give us the strength to follow the right path and practice Islam Ameen!

Mandatory Conditions Of Hijab For Muslim Women

Those who truly understand Islam and have in-depth knowledge of the Quran and hadith are aware of the fact the value, rights and respect that Islam gives to women is unmatchable and there is no other culture, religion or law in the world that gives women such a status that empowers and reveres them in the way as Islam does.

Although people may somehow be convinced of all the rights that Islam gives to women and the kind of place they have in Muslim society, however, the one thing that is the hardest when it comes to convincing other is the Hijab that Muslim women wear. People think that it is a sign of subjugation and that is something that holds women back and makes them inferior. This is a wrong perception and Hijab actually is meant to give protection to women and it is a symbol of respect in Islam. This debate will be touched some other time in some other post. While this post today on BritishHajTravel Ltd deals with the conditions in which wearing Hijab is mandatory for Muslim women.

    In Quran Allah Almighty says:

“O Prophet! Tell your wives, your daughters, and the woman of the believers to draw their Jilbab all over the bodies. That will be better. That they should be known so not to be annoyed. And Allah is ever oft-forgiving, most merciful.” (33:59)

Before moving on to the conditions, the need is to understand the word ‘Jilbab’ used in this ayah, as it is integral to fulfilling the condition of Hijab itself. The word ‘Jilbab’ refers to a piece of cloth in the form of a cloak that can be used to cover the whole body. Therefore, Muslim women are recommended to cover their bodies with a cloak so that they could have respect and not get exposed to any kind of maltreatment or sexual abuse from anyone.

There is another hadith related to the use or wearing of Jilbab that is to be worn as Hijab. Hazrat Um Atiya (RA) asked Prophet Muhammad (PBUH):

“O Messenger of Allah, one of us may not have a Jilbab.”

    Prophet (PBUH) replied:

“Let her sister lend her one of her Jilbabs to wear.” (Muslim)

From the hadith it is obvious that there is no relaxation in wearing of Hijab, rather if Muslim women do not have it available, she should ask of it from another sister and wear i
    t.

    Conditions For Wearing Hijab:

There are different conditions in which it becomes more than imperative for Muslim women to wear a Hijab. There are conditions and people mentioned in the Quran in front of whom and which the wearing of Hijab is exempted. In the Quran Allah says:

“Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that will make for greater purity for them, and Allah is well acquainted with all that they do. And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers, their father in law, their sons, their stepsons, their brothers or their brothers’ sons, or their sisters sons, or their women, or the slaves whom their right hands possess, or male servants free of physical needs, or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex; and they should not strike their feet in order to draw attention to their hidden ornaments. And O you Believers! Turn you all together towards Allah, that you may attain Bliss.” (24:30-31)

All the condition and people that are mentioned in this ayah are exempted from wearing of Hijab. Anyone or anything other than that, women must wear a Hijab. For the sake of understanding the conditions that can take place which make Hijab compulsory are discussed below.

    1st Condition:

The first condition when Hijab becomes compulsory is when women get in front of men who are not Mehram to them and for whom the absence of Hijab might lead to the development of sexual feelings. Therefore, whenever there is a condition where Muslim women have to go in front of people who are non-Mahram.

    2nd Condition:

The second condition in which wearing of Hijab becomes compulsory is when there is a chance that a woman is wearing such a dress that might reveal the private body parts of the women to other people in general and especially to Non-Mehram me
    n.

    3rd Condition:

The third condition in which it becomes mandatory for Muslim women to wear Hijab is when there is a chance of their adornments becoming exposed to the men who are not Mehram to them. The adornment differs for different scholars however a general consensus is that adornment refers to the ebbs and flows of the body. Therefore, if a dress is that revealing then women must wear a cloak over it.

    Conclusion:

In a nutshell, Hijab is not a constraint for Muslim women, rather who wear it wear it as an ornament that gives them respect as well as keeps them pious and free from any disturbance that may be caused because of any unintentional sexual innuendo.

Basic Rights of Wives in Islam | According to Quran and Hadith

Islam is the complete code of life. According to Islam family makes up the society. The family is formed of man and woman and it is extended by producing children. After getting married it’s the responsibility of the husband to take care of his wife in all aspects. Every Muslim must realize that one’s spouse is first and foremost on another. It’s the duty of all Muslims that they should give respect to one another. Husband and wife have been greater rights upon each other because they have to live together.

Husband and wife should strive to make one another happy and take into consideration the needs, abilities, and weaknesses of the other. Our beloved Prophet (PBUH) advised the husbands to treat their wives in the best way. This is clear in the following hadith: “The best of you is the best of you to their family and I am the best of you to my family.”

In another hadith Holy Prophet (SAW) said: “I entreat you to treat women well for they have been created from a rib and the most crooked part of a rib is the upper part. If you insist on straightening it, you will break it. If you leave it, it will remain crooked. So, I entreat you to treat women well.” (Bukhari)

In Holy Quran, Allah Almighty says: “And of His signs are that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquility in them, and He placed between you affection and mercy. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought” (Quran, 30:21). Below we will discuss some basic rights of wives upon her husband or you can say the duties of the husband for their wiv
    es.

    • To feed her, spend upon her in a way that Allah Almighty commanded in the Holy Quran. In one of the hadith Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said: ‘Give charity.’ A man said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, I have a Dinar.’ He said: ‘Spend it on yourself.’ He said: ‘I have another.’ He said: ‘Spend it on your wife.’ He said: ‘I have another.’ He said: ‘Spend it on your son.’ He said: ‘I have another.’ He said: ‘Spend it on your servant.’ He said: ‘I have another.’ He said: ‘You know best (what to do with it).”‘ (Sunan an-Nasa’i)
    • Give dowry to wife. In Holy Quran Allah (SWT) says about the right of dowry in these words: “And give women their dowries as a gift. Then, if they are pleased to give some of it to you, consume it with good health and enjoyment.”( Quran, 4:4)
    • Support is one of the most important rights of the wife over her husband. Allah Almighty says in the Holy Quran: “…And upon the father is the mother’s sustenance and her clothing according to what is reasonable. No person shall have a burden on him greater than he can bear…”(Quran, 2:233)
    • It’s the duty of the husband to be kind to her. Prophet (PBUH) said in one of His hadith: “The perfect man in his faith among the believers is the one whose behavior is most excellent, and the best of you are those who are the best to their wives.” (Tirmidhi)
    • A husband should not expose the secrets of his wife. The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: “The wicked among the people in the eye of Allah on the Day of Judgment is the man who goes to his wife and she comes to him, and then he divulges her secret.” (Sahih Muslim)
    • The man must not curse or swear at his wife, or insult her appearance.
    • A man should not hate his wife. Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said: “A believer must not hate (his wife) believing woman; if he dislikes one of her characteristics he will be pleased with another”. (Muslim)

In short, it is proven that Islam gives women enough rights as a religion, it is then up to us, as men, to further their rights and help them attain the level of equality they deserve. May Allah Almighty give us the strength to live our lives according to Islamic teachings! Ameen.

    Blessings of Dhul Hijjah

The last month of the lunar calendar ‘Dhul Hijjah’ is here. It is the month of the fifth pillar of Islam — Haj. This is the last sacred month of the year in Hijra Calendar. It is the month of Eid Al-Adha and the great sacrifice.

Did you know that first 10 days of this month are very important and blessed?

Even for those who are not performing the pilgrimage — Haj, the first 10 days are equally important and virtuous. All the good deeds that you do are loved and rewarded by Allah manifold in these 10 days. Every act of worship has double rewards.

If you are not going for Haj then, what can you do to gain the benefit and blessing of 10 days of Dhul Hijjah?

According to a saying of our Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), fasting in any of these 9 days is equivalent to fasting for one year. Hence, your reward is as if you fasted throughout the year. Therefore, you can start by fasting to avail the blessing of these days.

Fasting on the ninth of Dhul Hijjah, which is the day of Arafat for those performing pilgrimage is the most special and auspicious. Did you know that fasting on ninth of this month would make up for the sins and misgivings of last and the coming year?

However, as the summer is strongest in the Kingdom right now. Thus, it is better to keep yourself hydrated and drink a lot of water if you are going to fast.

In addition, it has been stated that if you pray at night, it will be equivalent to praying on the night of Qadr in Ramadan. We all seek Layla-tol-Qadr in Ramadan, and here Allah has given us the opportunity to have it again.

Do the Dikhr as much as possible. Always keep your tongue moist with the remembrance of Allah. Recite Qur'an and Takbeerat. Ask your parents to guide you, and help you learn.

Do as many good deeds as possible. Allah loves all the good things that you can do in these days and they are rewarded immensely. Respect others, and show your good manners. Be the first one to greet others, and help everyone around you.

Spend a part of your pocket money on giving charity, or helping someone in need. Make Dua for your loved ones and the entire world. Allah listens to our prayer when we call upon Him. Make positive changes in life by adopting a good habit, and dropping a bad one. If you are not regular in your daily prayers, it is a very good time to make the change. Get rid of anger, and stop fighting with your siblings.

This time of the year is very important, especially if you did not get the chance to do well throughout the year. Be a good Muslim, and an excellent human being starting today. The rewards and blessings are yours in this world and the hereafter.
