The wondrous holy book has all the answers

Aminah Assilmi is a former Christian based in the US. She tried to convert Muslims to Christianity, but herself embraced Islam when she read the Qur’an and other books on Islam. In this second part of her narrative, she describes how her Shahadah proved a solid footing on the ladder to spiritual knowledge and closeness to God.

I ARGUED that I was Christian, I was just trying to understand Islam. (Inside I was thinking: I couldn’t be a Muslim! I was American and white! What would my husband say? If I am Muslim, I will have to divorce my husband. My family would die!)
We continued talking. Later, he explained that attaining knowledge and understanding of spirituality was a little like climbing a ladder.
If you climb a ladder and try to skip a few rungs, there was danger of falling. The Shahadah was just the first step on the ladder. Still we had to talk some more.
Later that afternoon, May 21, 1977 at Asr, I took Shahadah. However, there were still some things I could not accept, and it was my nature to be completely truthful, so I added a disclaimer. I said: “I bear witness that there is no god but God and Mohammad is His Messenger” ‘but, I will never cover my hair and if my husband takes another wife, I will castrate him.’
I heard gasps from the other men in the room, but Abdulaziz silenced them. Later I learned that he told the brothers never to discuss those two subjects with me. He was sure I would come to the correct understanding.
The Shahadah was indeed a solid footing on the ladder to spiritual knowledge and closeness to God. But it has been a slow climb. Abdulaziz continued to visit me and answer my questions. May God reward him for his patience and tolerance.
He never admonished me or acted like a question was stupid or silly. He treated each question with dignity and told me that the only stupid question was the one never asked. Hmmm... my grandmother used to say that.
He explained that God had told us to seek knowledge, and questions were one of the ways to accomplish that. When he explained something, it was like watching a rose open — petal by petal, until it reached its full glory.
When I told him that I did not agree with something and why, he always said I was correct up to a point. Then he would show me how to look deeper and from different directions to reach a fuller understanding. Alhamdulillah (To God is all praise!)
Over the years, I had many teachers. Each one special, each one different. I am thankful for each one of them and the knowledge they gave. Each teacher helped me to grow and to love Islam more. As my knowledge increased, the changes in me became more apparent. Within the first year, I was wearing hijab. I have no idea when I started. It came naturally, with increased knowledge and understanding. In time, I even came to be a proponent of polygamy. I knew that if God had allowed it, there had to be something good in it.
“Glorify the name of thy Guardian — Lord Most High, Who hath created, and further, given order and proportion; Who hath measured, and granted guidance; and Who bringeth out the (green and lush) pasture, and doth make it (but) swarthy stubble, We shall make you to recite (the Qur’an), so do not forget, except as God wills: for He knoweth what is manifest and what is hidden. And We will make it easy for thee (to follow) the simple (path).” (Qur’an, 87:1-8)
When I first started to study Islam, I did not expect to find anything that I needed or wanted in my personal life. Little did I know that Islam would change my life. No human could have ever convinced me that I would finally be at peace and overflowing with love and joy because of Islam.
This book spoke of the one God, the Creator of the universe. It described the beautiful way in which He had organized the world. This wondrous Qur’an had all the answers. God is The Loving! God is the Source of Peace! God is the Protector! God is the Forgiver! God is the Provider! God is the Maintainer! God is the Generous One! God is the Responsive! God is the Protecting Friend! God is the Expander!
“Have we not expanded thee thy breast? And removed from thee thy burden the which did gall thy back? And raised high the esteem (in which) thou (art held)? So, verily, with every difficulty, there is relief: Verily, with every difficulty there is relief!” (Qur’an, 94:1-6)
The Qur’an addressed all the issues of existence and showed a clear path to success. It was like a map forgiving, an owner manual for life!

Tawheed: The essence of Islam

Tawheed (Islamic monotheism) is the greatest foundation of Islamic belief.
In fact, a person is considered as Muslim if he/she accepts that there is no god worthy of worship but Allah and that Muhammad (peace be upon him) is His slave and His messenger to humankind.
Almighty Allah says in the Noble Qur’an: "Allah — there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of (all) existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is (presently) before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great." (Qur’an, 2:255)
In these marvelous verses, Allah describes Himself as the only one — most powerful, ever-living Lord of us. Tawheed is the bedrock of Islam and it states that it is Allah Who has created the universe with whatever is in it and administers it.
What we deduce from the operation of the universe and call ‘natural laws’ are, in fact, Allah’s regular ways of creating things and events and administering the universe.
According to Islam, all religions revealed to the prophets (may Allah exalt their mention) have the same essence and knowledge of Tawheed and unity of Allah; but, with the time, their messages were misinterpreted, mixed with superstition, and degenerated into some rituals.
That was the same message with which Adam was sent down to earth, the same knowledge that Allah revealed to Nuh (Noah), Ibrahim (Abraham), Musa (Moses) and Isa (Jesus), may Allah exalt their mention, and the last Prophet sent to humanity, Muhammad (peace be upon him).
Islam rejects characterizing Allah in any human form or depicting Him as favoring certain individuals or nations on the basis of wealth, power or race.
However, our human minds are often in search of understanding the concept of Allah in materialistic ways, although we are not capable to completely comprehend this concept. When Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) contemporaries asked him about God, Allah revealed the chapter of Ikhlas (Qur’anic chapter no. 112), which is considered as the motto of Tawheed, saying: "Say (O Muhammad), “He is Allah, (who is) One. Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor was He begotten. Nor is there to Him any equivalent." (Qur’an, 112:1-4)
The Creator must be a different nature from the things created, because if He is of the same nature as they are, He will be temporal and will, therefore, need a maker. If the maker is not temporal, He must be eternal. But if He is eternal, He cannot be caused. If nothing apart from Him causes Him to continue to exist, He must be self-sufficient and self-subsistent.
If He does not depend upon anything for the continuance of His own existence, this existence can have no end. The Creator is therefore Eternal and Everlasting. Allah Says (what means): "He is the first and the last." (Qur’an, 57:3)
The Creator does not create only in the sense of bringing things into being, in other words, He is not only a Starter, He also preserves everything, takes them out of the existence, and is the ultimate cause of whatever happens to them.
Ali Ibn Abu Talib, the fourth Muslim Caliph (may Allah bless him), is reported to have said: "He is being but not through the phenomenon of coming into being. He exists but not from non-existence. He is with everything but not physical nearness. He is different from everything but not by physical separation. He acts but without the accompaniment of movements and instruments. He is the One, only such that there is none with whom He keeps company or whom He misses in his absence."
In Islam, Allah is known by His names and attributions and the manifestation of these names in the universe.
Another aspect of Tawheed in Islam is that it implies the equity and unity of all people in their relation with Allah. Thus, people of different social strata were not created by separate deities with varying levels of power, since this would violate Tawheed by putting barriers between them. Instead, social dimension of Tawheed states that the same Allah created everyone, and so all people have the same fundamental essence. In fact, the noblest person in Allah’s sight is the one who is most Allah-conscious.
Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “Your Lord is One. You are from Adam and Adam was created from dust. An Arab is not superior to a non-Arab, nor a white person over a black person, except for his/her piety and righteousness.”

As symbol of Unity of all Races in Hajj and Umrah

Despite all material development of the world, human beings are not satisfied. Most of the people around us seem depressed and stressed. The real happiness is still out of reach. All the worldly luxuries are adding more emptiness to human soul. People are struggling hard to make their lives full of happiness but happiness eludes us. The wars, crimes, violence and conflicts of the world are rising and humanity is sinking rapidly in the ocean of depression and isolation. Human relations are losing worth and people have become a machine to earn and spend without achieving any happiness. Despite so many scientific inventions and social development, the major part of world is impoverished.
If we try to go deep into the causes of the bareness of human soul, we find that we have lost one most important aspect of life and that is spirituality. Most of the physiatrist are of opinion that there must be a balance between material and spiritual aspects of life but the problem is that financial requirements for survival and greed for more and more possession is rising which create stress and competition. This greed is the basic cause of our emotional and spiritual problems.
The best thing about religion is its spiritual aspect. If we are able to understand the true objective of all religions we find that all religions teach compassion and brotherhood. It promotes peace, charity and help for under privileged class of human beings but the tragedy is that we have politicized religions also. Religious clerks behave like politicians and promote hatred and divide. It has become imperative that we should think collectively to promote the real objective of religions that is the promotion of love, peace and spirituality.
Now days Islam is under sever criticism because of the wrong political reasons. The problems which are rooted in political conflicts are attributed to religions and it has caused great damage to humanity and perception about religions. The urgent need of the time in given circumstances is to promote all such religious teaching, customs and rituals that could promote love, compassion, unity, peace and brotherhood internationally.
Umrah and hajj pilgrimage are the perfect examples to demonstrate the unity, compassion, peace and brotherhood internationally. The people all around the world get together in cities of makkah and Medina to show the unity and this demonstration of hajj and Umrah truly reflect the real philosophy of Islam that Islam does not discriminate and does not recognize any difference of race, geography, language and financial status. The world needs to learn from this and politicians need to understand what spirit unites these people of different origins.

Ideal character of Muslim women

 Images source: flickr
SOME people are unaware of the importance and value Islam places upon women. Women who do not know this reality, as well as all people with insufficient knowledge of the Qur'an, try to protect their rights by working within their worldview, which follows the logic of unbelief.
A Muslim woman believes in Allah with a true heart, submits completely to Him, is aware that there is no other deity, that He is the Lord of every being and thing, and that He is All-Powerful. Therefore, she fears and respects only Him and seeks to win only His good pleasure.
She worships only Him, accepts only Him as her closest friend, and seeks only His help. She also knows that only He can direct good and bad toward her, and so lives in the full knowledge that she is dependent on Him. She knows that He keeps her alive, provides and cares for her, and protects and guards her. For these reasons, she has no expectations of other people.
She believes in Allah without the slightest doubt in her heart for her whole life, never losing heart or belief regardless of the circumstances.
She knows how to be grateful and content with her closeness to Him both when her life is good and when she is undergoing difficulties. She is in a state of constant submission, certain of our Lord's love, compassion, forgiveness and providence.
When she encounters a problem, she knows that Allah has provided a solution in the Qur'an, and that what matters most is her continued sincere love, submission, and trust in Allah. She is certain of Allah's promise that He creates everything according to His justice and with wisdom and goodness.
Even if her problems seem to go on forever, she never surrenders to hopelessness or worries when His help will come. Content with what He has sent her way, she maintains her patience and submission, knowing that something good will come out of it. She remembers what the Qur'an says about those who abandon their belief in such times. In addition, she recites "My Lord is with me and will guide me" (Qur’an, 42:62), just as the Prophets did when faced with hardship. Throughout her life, her profound faith enables her to see Allah's compassion, closeness, love, help, and friendship at all times.
Allah created men and women for a purpose and revealed their responsibilities in the Qur'an. Men and women are required to lead the moral life prescribed by Allah, worship and serve Him, and to win His pleasure. They are required to tell people who are far from the happy and contented life about following the Qur'an's teachings and to make a genuine effort to help them draw closer to Allah's pleasure, mercy, and Paradise.
Some unbelieving women consider strength and willpower to be male characteristics, out of the mistaken belief that only men have to show strength and determination for themselves, as well as for the women in their charge, in the face of adversity. Thus, they consider it to be in their best interest to surrender to men's intellect, willpower and strength. Especially when encountering trouble and difficulty, they lose whatever little strength and willpower they have and panic, and thus give themselves up to irrational and confused behavior.
This pale and weak personality leads unbelieving women to pay too much attention to what other people think about them. Often, they knowingly do something wrong just to impress others or to win a respectable place among them. Likewise, if they are criticized, they feel belittled and disliked, and so feel devastated. Not understanding that what matters is their value in Allah's Presence, they only seek the approval of people and end up being upset and distraught, thinking that all they ever do is a waste. As a result, they become depressed and lose their strength, willpower, and courage.
But Muslim women never stagger because of people's criticism. Given that they measure themselves by the yardstick of the Qur'an, which spells out clearly what is right and what is wrong, they strive to live up to the Qur'anic morality. If they are criticized for doing so, they become even more determined and stronger in their pursuit of His good pleasure, which is the highest goal to pursue. Believing that only the Qur'an's morality gives them any value in this world and the next, they do not care what other people think of them.
The only solution is the Qur'an, which provides the easiest, as well as the most content and beautiful path, by which to live. The only path that can lead toward righteousness is His path, for only it leads to goodness and prosperity. Allah reveals that the Qur'an brings people honor and dignity, and that all who abide by its values and follow this righteous path will find success in everything they undertake.
All true and lasting solutions to false ideas about women are found in the Qur'an. Islam, which was revealed to guide humanity to salvation, genuinely values women. Many verses protect women and their rights, for the Qur'an eliminated the prevalent misguided stereotypes of women and gave them a respectable position in society. Our Lord teaches that superiority in His Presence is based not on gender, but rather on one's fear and respect of Allah, faith, good character, devotion, and dedication to Him.
Allah has revealed the steps that women need to take to ensure their protection and respect within society, and for them to find the love and dignity that they deserve. All of these measures benefit women and seek to prevent damage to their interests or any form of oppression and unnecessary stress.

Plan to make bracelets mandatory for all Hajis

JEDDAH — The Ministry of Health is considering a plan to make pilgrims wear electronic bracelets that contain their personal data.
Deputy Minister of Health Dr. Hamad Al-Duwailie said such information will make it a lot easier the identification of the pilgrims in emergency situations.
“We will prepare the bracelets in cooperation with Alem company for electronics and we will make it mandatory for both internal and external pilgrims to wear,” he said.
The official cited difficulties in identifying some of the pilgrims who died in the crane crash inside the Grand Mosque and the Mina stampede during the last Haj season.
“The bracelet will enable us to recognize any pilgrim immediately by name, nationality, age, the Tuwafa establishment to which he or she belongs and the place of accommodation,” he said.
Duwailie said the Haj will take place in hot summer during the next 10 years and said shades should be established in places where the pilgrims assemble to wait for trains or buses to protect them from extreme heat.
He said last year the ministry prepared eight hospitals, 125 health centers and 180 ambulances to serve the pilgrims in Makkah and the holy sites.
“Immediately after the conclusion of the previous pilgrimage, we began meetings to prepare for the next season taking into account all the negative observations and shortcomings to avoid them in future,” he said.
The deputy minister said the ministry has decided to make its Haj and Umrah committee a permanent panel in Makkah to coordinate early with all the other concerned government and private departments.

The challenge of the Qur’an

The Qur’an is not only unique in the way in which it presents its subject matter, but it is also unique in that it is a miracle itself.
By the term “miracle,” we mean the performance of a supernatural or extraordinary event which cannot be duplicated by humans. It has been documented that Prophet Muhammad (may the mercy and blessings of God be upon him) challenged the Arabs to produce a literary work of a similar caliber as the Qur’an, but they were unable to do so in spite of their well-known eloquence and literary powers. The challenge to reproduce the Qur’an was presented to the Arabs and mankind in three stages:

l. The whole Qur’an
In the Qur’an, God commanded the Prophet to challenge all of creation to create a book of the stature of the Qur’an: “Say: ‘If all mankind and the jinn would come together to produce the like of this Qur’an, they could not produce it’s like even though they exerted all their strength in aiding one another’.” (Qur’an, 17:88)

2. Ten chapters
Next, God made the challenge ostensibly easier by asking those who denied its divine origin to imitate even 10 chapters of the Qur’an: “Or do they say that he has invented it? Say (to them), ‘Bring 10 invented chapters like it, and call (for help) on whomever you can besides God, if you are truthful.” (Qur’an, 11:13)

3. One chapter
This final challenge was to produce even a single chapter to match what is in the Qur’an, whose shortest chapter, Al-Kawthar, consists of only three verses: “And if you all are in doubt about what I have revealed to My servant, bring a single chapter like it, and call your witnesses besides God if you are truthful.” (Qur’an, 2:23)
These challenges were not just empty words with no one caring to prove them wrong. Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) call to monotheism, to the abolition of idolatry in all its forms, and to the equality of slaves and their masters threatened the whole socio-economic framework of Makkah society in general, and the position of the ruling Quraishi tribe from which the Prophet came in particular.
Makkah, the trading center of Arabia, as well as its spiritual center, desperately wanted to stop the spread of Islam. Yet all that the Prophet’s opponents had to do to crush the movement was to make up a single chapter like any one of those which the Prophet (peace be upon him) and his followers were reciting to the people.
A number of Quraishi orators and poets tried to imitate the Qur’an, but they failed. They then resorted to offering him vast amounts of wealth, the position of king over them, and the most noble and beautiful of their women in exchange for his promise to stop inviting people to Islam.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) responded to them by reciting the first 13 verses of Chapter Fussilat, until they asked him to stop. (Collected by Al-Hakim, Al-Baihaqi, Abu Yala and Ibn Hisham)
The Quraish also resorted to torturing their slaves and relatives who had embraced Islam in a vain attempt to cause them to revert to paganism. Later they organized an economic boycott against the Prophet (peace be upon him), his followers and the members of his clan, Banu Hashim, in an attempt to starve them into submission. But even this plan eventually failed. Finally, they plotted to kill him in his home by sending armed young men from each of the clans of Quraish in order that the guilt of his murder be shared by all the clans, making revenge by the Prophet’s clan impossible.
However, God enabled the Prophet (peace be upon him) and his followers to leave Makkah and join a new band of converts who had arisen among the tribes of a city to the north called Yathrib.
Islam spread rapidly through the clans of Yathrib, and within a year Muslims became the city’s majority. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was then made the ruler, and the name of the city was changed to Madinatun-Nabi (The city of the Prophet), which was then shortened to “Madinah.” Over the next eight years, the clans of Makkah and its neighboring lands mounted a series of unsuccessful battle campaigns against the emerging Muslim state in Madinah. All of this bloodshed could have been avoided if only the Quraish and their allies had been able to produce a mere three lines of poetry or flowing prose similar to the shortest chapter of the Qur’an.
Hence, there can be no doubt about the inimitability of the Qur’an’s literary style, about the miracle of its rhyme and the marvel of its rhythm.
It has been suggested that the inimitability of the Qur’an is not necessarily unique, for great English poets like Shakespeare, Chaucer, or great poets in any language tend to have distinctly unique styles which set them apart from their contemporaries.
However, if, for example, some leading poet of today were to make an in-depth study of Shakespeare’s writings and write a sonnet in Shakespeare’s style in old ink and on old paper, then claim that he had discovered a lost poem of Shakespeare’s, the literary world would probably accept this claim, even after careful study.
Thus, even the greatest of poets could be imitated, no matter how unique his style was, just as the famous painters have been imitated. (In fact, some English scholars consider much of what has been attributed to Shakespeare to have been written by his contemporary, Christopher Marlowe.)
The Qur’an, however, is way above this level, as attempts to forge chapters have been made throughout the ages, yet none has withstood close scrutiny. And, as was mentioned before, the incentive to imitate the Qur’an was more intense during the time of its revelation when literally skills were at their peak than at any other time, yet there was no successful attempt.

Loving mankind for Allah’s sake

One of the main characteristics of Muslims is that they have a great love for Allah, His messengers and prophets and for all Muslims who seek Allah’s approval.

This bond of love and friendship between believers is revealed as follows in the Qur’an: “Your friend is only Allah and His Messenger and those who have iman: Those who establish prayer and pay alms, and bow.” (Qur’an, 5:55)
The true source of Muslims’ love for one another is their profound love of Allah. Believers whose aim in the life of this world is to earn the approval and mercy of Allah and paradise spend their whole lives for Allah. As revealed in the Qur’an in the verse “Say: ‘My prayer and my rites, my living and my dying, are for Allah alone, the Lord of all the worlds,” (Qur’an, 6:162), they seek to earn Allah’s approval in all they do and in all their behavior. The love of believers who dedicate all they have to earning Allah’s approval is also for Allah alone.
The love of a believer who knows Allah, who witnesses His might and greatness at every moment and who feels His love, affection and mercy throughout his life, is incomparably stronger than any other love. His love for other believers will similarly be powerful and profound since it is based on love of Allah. The fact that he knows that the friendship he enjoys with other believers will last for all time in the hereafter is another reason for that being very strong and permanent. Allah cites the moral values of the Prophet Yahya (peace be upon him) in the Qur’an as an example of the love of believers: “[After the child had been born and grown We said], ‘Yahya, take hold of the Book with vigor.’ We gave him judgment while still a child, and tenderness and purity from Us – he had piety.” (Qur’an, 19: 12-13)
Our Prophet (peace be upon him) also reveals in Hadiths that believers’ love for one another is for Allah’s approval: Abu Zarr (may Allah bless him) relates: “Rasulullah (peace be upon him) said: “The most virtuous of deeds is to love for Allah’s sake and to hate for Allah’s sake.” (Kutub-i-Sitte, vol. 10, p. 140; Abu Dawud, Sunnet 3, 4599)
Believers with a great love and fear of Allah and who honestly strive for His approval of them, are auspicious people who bring beauty to the world. Because of these superior virtues they also love Allah’s creations, feel affection and compassion for them, and wish to protect them and do them good.
Allah has revealed that in return for this fine love and their sincere devotion to our Lord that stem from the faith in believers’ hearts and their fear of Him, they will be rewarded with paradise, the place of the best love and devotion.
Our Lord does not only command His servants to love in the Qur’an. He also describes in detail what form the foundation of love will take. For example, He reveals that at the basis of a person’s love for someone else will lie patience, loyalty, generosity, care, truthfulness, courage, protectiveness and loving other more than one loves oneself.
Allah refers to this love as follows in the Qur’an: “But those who before them, had homes (in Madinah) and had adopted the Faith — show their affection to such as came to them for refuge, and entertain no desire in their hearts for things given to the (latter), but give them preference over themselves, even though poverty was their (own lot). And those saved from the covetousness of their own souls — they are the ones that achieve prosperity.” (Qur’an, 59:9)
As revealed in this verse, characteristics such as consideration, loyalty and fortitude are the most significant indicators of love. People who are egotistical and selfish, and not patient and forgiving, are totally devoid of true love. Our Lord, who of course has a flawless knowledge of the behavior and attitudes of the servants He creates, their psychology in other words, describes the features of people who are loveless and do not behave in accordance with the moral values of the Qur’an in detail in that book, and thus makes it easier for Muslims to identify those characteristics.
Allah reveals in the Qur’an that hard work and care and attention are necessary for love. He notes that loves needs to be tended, just like a flower.
Some people who do not know the true love that Allah describes in the Qur’an imagine that love is dependent on physical appearance and that people can only be loved if they are attractive. Yet people’s anatomical structures consist of flesh, fat, bone and blood; therefore, were it not for the skin, the work of Allah’s matchless creation, there would be very little about people to like.
People who turn their love toward matter do not in fact love that appearance. It is at this point that the basis of the true love that believers feel for one another emerges. This is because believers love people, not just for their external appearance, but for the moral virtues they embody in their souls. And it is believers who live by the moral values of the Qur’an and seek the approval of Allah who possesses these moral qualities. For that reason, Muslims love other Muslims.
And among Muslims, they love them most whom they regard as having the most piety and being the most sincere because according to the Qur’an, love is dependent on piety.

Unprecedented Umrah rush

RIYADH: Makkah witnessed an unprecedented crowd of Umrah pilgrims this week with hotels booked to capacity and worshippers praying in the courtyards of the holy mosque and on adjoining streets.

Five and four-star hotels are charging SR550 a night, while small hotels with limited facilities and no services were are charging SR200.
Worshippers who went to the Grand Mosque an hour ahead of adhan (call for prayer), were denied entry because of congestion. They were seen praying either in the courtyard of the Haram or on the Ajyad Street and on the Jabal Al-Kaaba Road.
Pilgrims from Indonesia, Malaysia, Turkey, Egypt, Singapore, the Philippines, Indian, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and neighboring Arab countries were seen in large numbers.
A hotelier told Arab News that because of the school holidays, a large number of local pilgrims also joined the worshippers. “ Some of them come on a week's package organized by the Kingdom's Umrah operators.
Umrah travel operators in the capital have drastically reduced the weekend pilgrim package to SR100 from its original price of SR250 during the Haj season.
A return fare from Riyadh to Makkah by a luxury coach including accommodation in the holy city costs SR100 per pilgrim and there is an additional charge of SR50, if the pilgrim opts to visit the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah on way to Makkah. On an additional payment of SR100 per pilgrim, accommodation could be extended to a four-star hotel in the holy city.
A travel operator in the city said the weekend package to Makkah and Madinah begins at 4 p.m. in Riyadh on Thursday and ends midnight Saturday. Each family is given a large room while bachelors are accommodated on a sharing basis with three pilgrims to a room. Children under 12 are charged half the fare. Accommodation is provided in a three star hotel.
There are nearly 300 Umrah travel operators spread out in the capital but these are largely concentrated on the city center of Batha.
According to Haj Minister Bandar Hajjar, the Kingdom is expected to receive more than 6 million Umrah pilgrims during the current season and the number is likely to exceed past figures.
“All arrangements are in place and the ministry is ready to welcome the visitors to the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque,” he said .
“The ministry has deployed all its staff and personnel to serve the guests of God and facilitate their arrival to perform the religious rituals smoothly and leave the Kingdom during the coming months without any accumulation in their numbers,” said Hajjar.

Best time to book Umrah packages

Every devoted Muslim knows that Hajj is obligatory for every capable Muslim once in his lifetime. Hajj is performed every year in the month of Dhul Hajj. The bookings of Hajj are made well in advance because of the very large number of people going to Hajj every year and each year the number of pilgrims increases. Umrah on the other hand is different because it can be performed at anytime of the year. The peak Umrah season is during the months of Rabi-ul-Awal and Sha’aban. In the months of Ramadhan, every Muslim wants to do Umrah because as narrated by this Hadith:
Narrated by Ibn Abbas, The Prophet of Allah (SAWS) said, “Perform Umrah in the month of Ramadhan, as its (reward) is equivalent to having performed Hajj with me.” Sahih Albukhari.
According to the recent Saudi Government rules, anyone who wishes to perform Umrah must book their Umrah with authorized and licensed Umrah agents in their local countries. This gives the pilgrim an opportunity to book their complete package including flight bookings, accommodation and transportation etc. The new rules forbid any pilgrim from going to Umrah without booking with an Umrah agent. There are several Hajj and Umrah packages offered by a number of agents around the world. These packages range from budget friendly packages to five star luxury packages. During the Umrah season the agents usually get over booked especially for the month of Ramadhan. These bookings are made well in advance to avoid congestion of flights, hotel and accommodation bookings in Makkah. Some hotels which are near the Holy Mosque in Makkah are booked months in advance.
The best time to book your Umrah package is after the Hajj season ends. In the months of Moharram and Saffar, most of the Pilgrims who want to go for Umrah in coming Ramadhan or any time of the coming year book their packages with their agents. This gives them a very good opportunity to book hotels, flights and transport in Makkah and Madinah. A reputable agent can book your complete package for individuals or groups. It is always preferable to book your package with a reputable and registered Umrah agent to avoid certain hassles of high prices of accommodation and flights. The Saudi Government has imposed new rules for Umrah and Hajj service providers to meet the standards set by the Government.
Umrah and Hajj should always be performed with complete concentration and devotion to Allah (SWT) and booking well in advance will give you the chance to have a hassle free sacred journey to Makkah and Madinah, and you can concentrate more on your prayers rather than worrying about the hotel or return flights. Responsible booking agents always advise their clients to book their Umrah packages during the months of Moharram and Saffar, but they can get last minute bookings as well which may cost a bit more in flights and accommodation, but you will be able to perform your obligation with full devotion to Allah (SWT).
